Our professional staff will help you identify the proper superabrasive system to serve your needs and then identify the most cost effective mix of new and/or replated (strip and replate) tools for your particular project.
DiamondBack Abrasive offers a complete line of Diamond and CBN electroplating services including:
New Tool – We manufacture new tools to your specifications, coating the tool with the required coverage/grit size of Diamond or CBN for your particular need.
Strip/Replate – We develop a cost effective plan with you to strip remaining abrasive material from the original tool, returning it to the original state, and then re-apply Diamond or CBN to the tool to provide you with a “like new” tool. The process saves you money by extending the life of your original investment.
Choice of Abrasive:
Diamond – Natural Diamond is the hardest substance known to man. It was formed in the earth’s crust over thousands of years, and under extreme pressures and temperatures. Use Natural Diamond for grinding plastics, glass, ceramic, carbide, fiberglass, reinforced composites, semiconductor materials and many other hard, non-ferrous materials.
CBN - After Diamond, cubic boron nitride (CBN) is the second hardest material known to man. Use CBN for ferrous high strength applications, high speed steel, die steel, hardened carbon steel, and superalloys.
How the Bond is Created
In the electroplating process, a single layer of abrasive (Natural Diamond or CBN) is bonded to a preformed steel core. The bond is accomplished by electroplating nickel to the tool while the abrasive particles are in contact with the core. As the nickel plates onto the core, the abrasive is held in place – exposing between 40% and 50% of the abrasive crystal, depending upon your particular grinding application.
Advantages of Plated Tools
Last but not least - you will find that we understand the relationship between turnaround time, inventory and your dollars. Faster turnaround means fewer superabrasive tools sitting on your shelves. This also means fewer dollars invested in tools - leaving more in your checking account.
Ask us about our documented TURNAROUND TIME – the number will shock you! Many of our customers soon discover they have too many tools!
